Mark 2:27 Jesus says, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”

The principle from Jesus is brilliant and applies to so many other things where we miss the point of something entirely and reverse the focus. We are religious about obsessing over the wrong things and twisting the purpose of them. Do you see yourself doing this in your life with anything?

I thought of a number of examples from life in general. We do this with our careers: jobs were made for men, not men for jobs. Work was meant to provide food and sustenance for our families, but we end up as slaves to our work. Work was made for man, not man for work. We slave away to invent new things to make life easier even when they end up making us slaves to themselves. Technology was made for man, not man for technology. Exercise was made for man, not man for exercise. Goals were made for man, not man for goals. Rules themselves were made for man, not man for rules. Money was made for man, not man for money. “Stuff” was made for man, not man for stuff. Schedules/Meetings were made for man, not man for schedules/meetings. Sports/music/etcetera … you get the point, is there anything that you are more excited about in life than Jesus? Is there anything other than Jesus that you cannot do without?

Where do you see this play out in your life?

Anything you need to focus on eliminating?
